In this lesson sts speak about places they'd like to visit in the world and places they would recommend people to go to on holiday in Turkey.

Main Aims

  • Sts practice speaking in the context of places they'd like to visit to in the world.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Sts practice speaking in the context of planning a 2-week holiday in Turkey, for grandparents, parents with kids and a school trip for teenagers.

Procedure

Lead-In. (3-5 minutes) • To establish context and engage sts interest in the topic.

T displays a map of the world on the WB. T elicits from sts were T went on a 2 month trip by getting sts to ask questions (India). T circles the place. T elicits why I might have gone there/ what interested T about it.

Pre-speaking (9-10 minutes) • Sts come up with ideas about places they would like to visit in the world, in preparation for discussion in next task.

T tells sts that they will be given a handout and that they must circle 5 places in the world that they would like to visit and come up with reason why. T tells sts to think very carefully about their choices and reasons why they interest them because they will be discussing them in the next task. T gives sts 8 minutes T monitors to check sts on tasks and then to give help and answer sts queries. If finish early mix up groups.

Speaking 1 (11-12 minutes) • Sts practice speaking in the context of places in the world that they would like to visit and the reasons why those places interest them.

T puts students in groups of 3/4. T tells sts to take it in turns to tell everyone in the group about their 5 choices and the reasons those places interest them. T gives sts 10 minutes.

Speaking 2 (12-15 minutes) • Sts practice speaking in the context of a travel agency designing a 2-week holiday for different types of people.

T elicits from sts where they would go if they wanted to book a holiday (Travel Agent). T shows pictures of parents with 2 children and elicits who they are. T shows pictures of two OAPs and elicits who they are. (Optional: depending on class size) T shows picture of a group of teenagers and a teacher and elicits name of group: school trip. T puts class into 3 groups (There should be three groups). T tells sts that they are all travel agents and must plan a two week trip in Turkey. T gives each group a different group to plan a holiday for. T gives them 5 minutes to discuses this in their groups and tells them that they will then present this to the class. If time left get WC to design trip for a school trip of teenagers. T monitors to check sts understood instructions and then to answer. Each group presents their trip to the class. (Should take about 6-8 minutes).

Summary (Optional). (3-6 minutes) • Correct any common errors of pronunciation or grammar that sts make

T drills words that sts miss-pronounce and phrases that they form incorrectly or miss-pronounce.
