Main Aims

  • By the end of the class students will be able to describe different cities using both gradable and absolute adjectives.

Subsidiary Aims

  • SS wil be able to properly select between using very/really and an absolute adjective.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows SS different pictures on the screen. Teacher asks students to describe pictures using adjectives they know.

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T shows students a text where both gradable and absolute adjectives are being used. T asks SS to give a general opinion of the text. SS have about a minute or two to read.

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T shows students the text where words have been highlighted. Words need to be related such as really good - amazing, very bad - terrible, etc.

Clarification (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T shows a chart where gradable and absolute adjectives are used. T goes over pronunciation of absolute adjectives. T goes over the use of adverbs.

Controlled Practice (2-4 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T sends Ss a link to word wall where they practice.

Free Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students have to describe their cities using gradable and absolute adjectives. They need to use the correct adverbs to convey their ideas clearly.
