Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher welcomes students to the topic of the hour, and sets a context by having students ask and answer the following questions: What do you know about COVID19? What are the safety measures you follow to prevent contracting COVID? What are some of the “conspiracy theories” you know about COVID? Which ones do you believe? Why? The students are sent to breakout rooms, and the teacher monitors. After time runs out, the teacher provides OCFB.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The students observed the link (https://forms.gle/MkRjrdsqMSGGr9cQ6) the teacher is sharing on the screen. In it, they will see vocabulary needed for the reading. Individually, students answer and then they compare in breakout rooms While students work, the teacher monitors. The teacher provides content feedback ICQ: Do you submit the form? No When do you submit? After checking with classmates

While-Reading #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

In it, they will see two questions they must answer based on the reading The students get the sample PDF, and Individually read and answer While students work, the teacher monitors. The teacher provides content feedback

While-Reading #2 (12-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The students observed the link (https://forms.gle/xQCaLF62duuYmkKQ8) the teacher is sharing on the screen, where they can see the new reading activity. Students answer it in breakout rooms While students work, the teacher monitors. The teacher provides accuracy feedback

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students are given the following context by the teacher: What are your thoughts on Covid policies from around the world? Do you know what other countries are doing? What do you think for example about Canada’s policy? Should people keep socially distancing and working from home? Why? Should people be forced to follow rules on behavior for the rest of the pandemic, and for future events? Why? SS must answer questions in breakout rooms After time runs out, students come back to the general session and the teacher does a content and accuracy feedback
