Main Aims

  • To provide review of modal verbs, reflexive pronouns in the context of health issues

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of health services

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher welcomes students to the topic of the hour: grammar practice. The teacher directs students with the following context: What are some things that could improve your life? What are some things you might buy if you had more money? What would you do if you find out you had a disease? How much would you spend or do to get better? The students are sent to breakout rooms, and the teacher monitors. After time runs out, the teacher provides OCFB.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

The teacher has students enter the net languages platform and answer exercises 1-6 of the grammar section in groups on breakout rooms. When students finish, the teacher must check answers in generality, so as to solve questions. Students then exemplify in the chat what they just did

Teach (15-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

The students then receive the following questions from the teacher: What words do we use to say that something is possible? What word do we use to say that something might not be possible? What word do we use to say or talk about possibility (whereas is always true or sometimes)? What words do we use to talk about actions where the subject and object are the same person? They must answer them in breakout rooms. While the students work, the teacher monitors. The students receive feedback

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

The teacher has students enter the net languages platform and answer exercises 7-12 of the grammar section in groups on breakout rooms. When students finish, the teacher must check answers in generality, so as to solve questions. Students then exemplify in the chat what they just did.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students receive the following context: Ask and answer the following questions: What do you think of the health service in this country? How can the health service be improved? Do you think the government is doing all it can to prevent disease? Why? What do you think of wellness institutions and their programs? How can they improve? While the students work, the teacher monitors. The students receive content feedback from the teacher...
