Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask Ss to read the text and discuss about the text. I will make Break Out Rooms for Ss. 'Which, if any, of the opinions A-C do you agree with?' https://forms.gle/GDbisjhBmwgnQ7u26

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I ask Ss about a gist task. Ss answer individually, then they compare answers in pairs. OCFB I will do this part and lead-in together. https://forms.gle/GDbisjhBmwgnQ7u26

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will show my Ss all examples of following idioms in the text in Google slides. And these examples are also used in next part.

Clarification (11-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will ask Ss to answer following questions. (1) STICK AT IT CCQ: Can she play the piano better if she STICKS AT IT? - No. (2) PICK UP CCQ: Mary watched the other dancers to see if she could PICK UP any tips. Did Mary learn something from the other dancers? - Yes. (3) DROP OUT CCQ: Can I join the graduation ceremony if I DROPPED OUT the university? - No. (4) THINK AHEAD CCQ: You're THINKING AHEAD about your job. Have you already decided your dream? - No. (5) DO ONE'S BEST CCQ: He thought he DID HIS BEST about the competition of football. Does he regret about the result of it? - No. (6) GIVE UP CCQ: Can I get good scores on the exam if I GAVE UP studying? - No. (7) MAKE THE MOST OF CCQ: You don't go to the gym these days. Do you MAKE THE MOST OF the gym? - No. 1. I will show examples of idioms on Google slides. 2. Ss answer these questions and choose forms (Adjective, Phrasal Verb, Noun) of these TL individually in Google forms. 3. Ss use private messages on the chat box to compare answers. (I will do 4, 5 and 6 for EACH idioms) 4. I will elicit answers from Ss with CCQs. 5. I will show other examples on White Board on Zoom / include following Google Form and pronounce idiom twice. 6. Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will ask Ss to replace (from the text) "leave university before they qualify" "learn" "make plans" "get as much benefit as possible from" "carry on something" "try as hard as you can" "stop" (to idioms) STICK AT IT PICK UP DROP OUT THINK AHEAD MAKE THE MOST OF DID ONE'S BEST GAVE UP Ss can answer individually first. Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will type the following question on the chat box and ask Ss to discuss this in Break Out Rooms. Choose three idioms that you learned today and tell your partner about a time when you did these things. What did you learn from the experience that will help you in your future life?
