Main Aims

  • To provide review of Verb patterns - Give. Pronouns (S+O) Can (requests) in the context of helping others
  • To provide review of Phrases GIVE Bring, take, hold. Phrases HAND in the context of Vocab for helping
  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about News story in the context of Helping community in Burundi.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation and roleplays in the context of helping others

Procedure

Warm up (10-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher greets the students and introduces them to the topic and class dynamic. He has students ask and answer in breakout rooms: Do you think is important to always help people (all the time, at all costs?)? Why? How good are you helping others? Is it easy or difficult for you to know when someone needs help? When is it ok to deny help to others?

Feedback and Error Correction (5-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The teacher does content feedback

Reading (20-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target receptive skills

The teacher has students enter the net languages platform and answer exercises 1-5 of the reading section in groups on breakout rooms. When students finish, the teacher must check answers in the generality, so as to solve questions. Students then summarize in the chat what was the reading about.

Closure (20-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

The teacher sets the following context: Tell the last time you help someone to do something (several rounds)… Example: The last time I gave someone a hand was last weekend. My flatmate Violet and I decided to clean the flat… The teacher sends them to breakout rooms and monitors work
