Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of writing a postcard (20-30 words)

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about visiting a foreign country in the context of postcard (20-30 words)

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-1 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T asks Ss: "While on vacation, have you ever sent a postcard to someone?" T waits for Ss T nominates a strong S if no S answers

Exposure (1-1 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T presents Ss with postcard (30 sec) T asks Ss to complete Google Form individually for 3-4 min T asks Ss the following ICCQs (1 min): - Is this an individual task? Yes. - How long do you have to complete it? 3-4 min. T sends link to Google Form (30 sec) Ss complete Google Form T provides OCFB (8 min): - T nominates and elicits answers from individual Ss

Productive Task(s) (21-26 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T presents Ss with written/verbal instructions to task (3 min) T shows Ss table showing student/slide # (30 sec) T shows Ss postcard template/demos the task (30 sec) T asks Ss the following ICCQs (1 min): - Is this an individual task? Yes. - How long do you have to complete it? 15 min. - Will you write about your real birth country? Yes. - Will you use private personal information? No. T allows Ss to work individually for 15 min (15 min) T informs Ss they will peer-check each other's postcards for 5 min (30 sec) T presents Ss with the checklist they will use to peer-check postcards (30 sec) T sends Ss to BOR for 5 min (5 min) T monitors Ss and records errors

Feedback and Error Correction (4-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T provides OCFB and DEC based on notes while monitoring BOR T answers questions from Ss (if any)
