Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about psychology in the context of talking about collections

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of word formaiton in the context of collections

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher tells the student the aim of the session, and has them ask and answer the following questions: What do you think and feel about collecting items? Is it a positive thing or negative?. Do you have any family collection? Do you know anyone who has? What collection would you start if you had the chance? Why? The teacher creates breakout rooms for such purpose, and after time runs out, brings students back and provides a content feedback

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The teacher shares the screen to set the new activity, which is a word-formation vocabulary exercise that students will answer in breakout rooms. The teacher shares the following link https://forms.gle/riQAYve7EyKxVhmp7, and creates new breakout rooms. Then, after time runs out, teacher brings students back and provides an OCFB

While-Reading #1 (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The teacher shares screen to set gist activity. The teacher shares the following link https://forms.gle/pKKBh99Q1JwF8BEy9, and creates new breakout rooms for such purpose. Students peer work/ check and return to the main session so the teacher can provide OCFB

While-Reading#2 (12-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The teacher shares screen to introduce students to the new activity, where they will read a text and answer the questions. The teacher creates shares the link https://forms.gle/4wXT9oeJhFxLZDCa8 and creates breakout rooms. After time runs out, the teacher provides an OCFB of the results

Post-Reading/Listening (10-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The teacher creates breakout rooms so students ask and answer the following questions: What did you think about the text? Did you know any of the things mentioned? Which is the premise of the text? What is your opinion of it? Do you agree/ disagree with what the text mentions? Teacher then brings everyone back and provides a content feedback
