In this lesson, the student will revise the use and form of direct questions, and will be introduced to the use and form of indirect questions through guided discovery. The lesson starts with a listening exercise in which the student listens for specific information. The grammar point is then introduced via controlled practice. The lesson is concluded by the student practicing the grammar point.

Main Aims

warm-up (1-3 minutes) • To set the lesson context and engage the student

S is shown four photos of four different men and asked to describe their style, e.g. cool, professional, trendy, etc.

listening for specific information (5-6 minutes) • to provide the student with listening for specific information exercise

S listens to an interview with the four men in the photos and is asked to number the photos in the order the interviewer speaks to them.

Introducing grammar (8-10 minutes) • To provide clarification for the grammar point

T shows two questions on the board. S is asked to look at the two questions, a direct question and an indirect question from one of the interviews. S is asked " Do you remember which one of these two questions was asked by the interviewer?" If the student could not remember, T plays a part of the track for the student to get the answer. T elicits that this is an indirect question but does not go into details as further clarification will be provided in the following exercise. S is asked to try to change the direct questions in ex. 1 to indirect questions. S is given 4 minutes to complete the exercise. S listens to the track and checks her answers. S is asked to work out the differences mentioned in ex. 2. S is given 3 minutes for this task.

Practicing the target language (6-8 minutes) • To provide a controlled practice of the target language

S is shown another direct question and is asked to make it indirect starting with "Do you know". S is given 3 minutes. T checks the questions with S and answers them about himself and invites S to answer the same questions about herself. T thanks S and concludes the lesson.
