To provide specific information listening practice using a text about an Indian Wedding in the context of weddings
To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in the context of wedding
Procedure (36-48 minutes)
The T will show the Ss a picture of a wedding, and pre teach: groom, bride, wedding and wedding anniversary. Then she will chest the HO and ask the Ss to match the words with the pictures. ICQs: what are you going to do? Are you going to write (gestures) or match(gestures)? FB to WB.
The T will show the Ss a picture of an Indian wedding and they will guess which person is the bride and which person is the groom then she will write their names on the board: Rajeet and Gita.
The T will chest the HO and tell the Ss that they will listen to a recording about Rajeet's wedding and then answer the questions. The T will ask ICQs using gestures: What are you going to do? (listen), Are you going to write or circle the answer? (circle) T will ask the Ss to check their answers in pairs and then get WCFB. The T will chest another HO, ask the Ss to listen again and answer the questions on the HOs. ICQs: What is there on the HO? What are you going to do with it? Are you going to talk or write? T will ask the the Ss to check their answers in pairs then get WCFB.
T will ask the Ss to talk about the last time they went to a wedding party: Do you like wedding parties? When Was the last time you went to a wedding party? Whose wedding was it? Where was it? How old were the bride and groom? Then she will write the question words on the board ask them to write a few sentences, then tell their partners about the last wedding party they attended. T will monitor and take notes to do delayed correction.
T will chest the HO and ask the Ss to fill in gaps using was, were, wasn't or weren't. She will ask the Ss to check their answers with their partners and then elicit the grammar rules and writes them on the board while asking CCQ: How do we start the question? (with a verb/ was or were) Can we use names in the short answers?(no) what about the short forms? (in negative short answers not affirmative ones) T will write 'Where was the wedding?' on the board and ask CCQs: When was the wedding? in the past or future?(past) when? why do we use was? (wedding is singular/one wedding) Then T will draw a time line on the board. She will also write ''how old were Rajeet and Gita?" and ask CCQs: Are we asking how old they are now or when they got married? present or past? Then the T will chest the HO,ask the Ss to look at the table and write the questions in the table. Then the Ss check their answers with their partners. Then T will elicit the grammar points and write them on the board. She will drill two sentences : Where was the wedding? How old were Rajeet and Gita? Then she will put them on the board again and draw the Ss' attention to the stress pattern using circles instead of words on the board.
T will chest the HO and do the first one as an example, then ask ICQs: What are you going to do? read(gestures) Are you going to write or circle? (circle/ gestures) Then she will give them some time to check their answers with their partners. T will get FB and give the Ss 2 mins to ask their partners these questions and then answer the questions. ICQs: are you going to write or talk? (talk/ gestures) how much time do you have? (2 mins) Then the teacher will chest another HO and ask the Ss to unscramble the sentences. ICQs: are the sentences in the correct order? (no) Then the Ss check their answers and then they will be given 3 more mins to ask their partners these questions.
The T will ask the Ss to write the name of three people on a piece of paper and then ask their partners wh questions about those people. She will write some question words on the board. ICQs: how many names? (3) Are you going to write or talk? (talk) Then the T will monitor, take notes, and do delayed correction on the board.
